How the Grinch Stole Christmas (and Charles Schultz Didn’t): My Christmas Podcast

December 23, 2022

A Tale of Two TV Specials

The podcast below the story of two of my favorite TV Christmas specials and what they have to say about Christmas – and media.

The name of the podcast has been updated since then (it is now called the Paranormal Review podcast) and I made a few mistakes like I always do as I was recording. But was most important to me was that I discovered a few things in doing it.

The first is that quoting Scripture on TV has been taboo for a lot longer than most of realize. The second is that the only TV Christmas special that includes Scripture is longer available on network TV (but can seen for free on Apple TV if you have an account). The third is that while it was relatively rare for a child (like me) to have never heard the Bible read aloud in 1967, it’s probably very common now.

There is, I’m quite sure, a point to be made. We’ll get back to it, in the new year.

Until then, wishing you and yours a wonderful Christ filled Christmas!

I feel like this is less a testament to my work et I feel like this is less a testament to my work ethic than an indication of how much time I spend avoiding writing. But it's nice that I got it just as I finished my keeper book cover.
O God, who on this day didst manifest Thine only-b O God, who on this day didst manifest Thine only-begotten Son to the Gentiles by the guidance of a star: graciously grant that we, who know Thee now by faith, may be led even to contemplate the beauty of Thy majesty.
