Praying with St. Anthony

December 6, 2022

Unfailing Novena to St. Anthony of Padua

About St. Anthony

St. Anthony of Padua was and is a wonder-worker. Which is why I turned to him recently when someone close to me was in need of a miracle.

I decided to pray the Unfailing Novena to St. Anthony of Padua and, as I did, I learned a bit about this amazing saint. A few days later, I picked up a lovely old St. Anthony statue to add to my prayer area.

As part of my petition, I promised the St. Anthony that I would design an Unfailing Novena to St. Anthony printable for my Etsy shop in hopes that this would encourage others to request his intercession. That printable is pictured above.

Most of the time, when we pray a Novena, we have a petition in mind. We know that God in His providence will determine the outcome but our request is still part of our prayer. But there is no reason we can’t use this time to get closer to the saint whose intercession we seek.

Like Saint Francis, St. Anthony is a well-known saint. But, as with Francis, what Anthony is known for is only a small part of who he really is. And I have to say that I loved the time spent learning about this amazing saint.

The Novena Prayer

The Novena trifold contains the Novena itself, some info on how to pray a Novena and a bit of background on St. Anthony’s Tuesday devotions. But I want to be sure that everyone who wants the Novena has it so am including it here:

Oh Holy St. Anthony, gentlest of Saints, your love for God and Charity for His creatures, made you worthy, when on earth, to possess miraculous powers. Miracles wait-ed on your word, which you were ever ready to speak for those in trouble or anxiety. Encouraged by this thought, I implore of you to obtain for me (name request), The answer to my prayer may require a miracle, even so, you are the Saint of Miracles, O gentle and loving St. Anthony, whose heart was ever full of human sympathy, whisper my petition into the ears of the Sweet Infant Jesus, who loved to be folded in your arms; and the gratitude of my heart will be yours. Amen

Blessed be God in His Angels and Saints.

I feel like this is less a testament to my work et I feel like this is less a testament to my work ethic than an indication of how much time I spend avoiding writing. But it's nice that I got it just as I finished my keeper book cover.
O God, who on this day didst manifest Thine only-b O God, who on this day didst manifest Thine only-begotten Son to the Gentiles by the guidance of a star: graciously grant that we, who know Thee now by faith, may be led even to contemplate the beauty of Thy majesty.
