Sometimes in my daily One Year Bible reading I find it impossible to pick just one verse and that was the case today. So because I was S.O.A.P. note journaling on two verses, I made my observations a little shorter than usual but the Scripture still hit home!
…If you stumble and fall on the open ground, what will you do in the thickets near the Jordan? – Jeremiah 12:5
..Our purpose is to please God not people… 1 Thessalonians 2:4
For Jeremiah, we must learn to succeed in easy or safe situations before we can expect to excel in those that challenge us.
For Thessalonians, our emphasis should be on pleasing God. No other audience means more.
As I reflected on these verses, I realized that I need to keep my focus on my home. This means following the guidance God has given me about my family. It means paying attention to them, caring for them, praying for them, and demonstrating the love of Jesus here where it should be easiest but often is not.
My early retirement and the blessing of having all three of my boys here at home is a wonderful opportunity for me and an incredible second chance for a single mom who worked straight through far too much. And I do treasure it. That is why I am cutting back a bit on my media stuff and even scaling back on my fiction writing.
Writing will always be part of my life. But the part about wanting people to like me and what I have to say is something I need to work on and today’s verses remind me that I’m being called to work on it right here on the level ground of my own home.
As always, I am blown away by the way God moves in my life. A lot of times I don’t see or understand it but I know it’s always there!
Dear God. Thank you so much for the opportunity you have given me to spend time with my boys. Help me to focus on my home and family and not over prioritize my work. May this time be a period of learning, healing and growth for both me and those I love. In Jesus’ name I prayer. Amen
