Why I did a DIY Book Cover
I decided to do a DIY book cover for my new book, “New Age To Catholic” because I love design and really always have. At one point as an adult, in fact, I took a break from nursing and went back to school for commercial art.
While I do design printables for Catholic Book And Card, I channel most of my creative energy into writing. Because everything I write is digital (the blog, ebooks, PDFs), however, design plays an important part. Whether it’s designing a blog, making a facebook graphic or an ebook cover, I love doing it. And I really appreciate how easy doing all of those things has become.
I went to school for Graphic Design, so I know how to use Photo Shop and Illustrator, but I actually prefer the online tools in programs like Canva. To me, using Canva especially is faster and easier.
How I Did my DIY Book Cover
The bookcover above is based on a Canva template so all I had to do was pick images, fonts and colors and switch things around a bit. I do all of my bookcovers in Canva (affiliate link). While the selection of templates could be better, it’s easy to customize templates to give you cover a unique look.
I use the pro version of Canva because I like being able to resize for social media but the free version works well too. I’ll do a review of Canva at some point, but for now I’ll just say that the free version is great for book covers, though it may be worth your while to try pro (affiliate link) because of the huge library of free images that are included.
About My Book
“New Age To Catholic” is my personal testimony. It tells the story of my involvement in the new age and occult and my return to Catholicism. I’ve done my best to show what lies behind some of the new age practices that are so widely accepted in our society, but I’ve shared my experience of the Holy Spirit as well and how the tools of the Catholic Church are a valuable and ongoing resource in my life of faith.
