This video by ex New Ager and owner of the Reasons For Jesus website, Steven Bancarz, lists various occult objects that many of us who were once in the New Age might still have in our homes. Bancarz points out that these objects may be connected to lower spiritual realities which means that we are likely to be effected in some very negative ways.
While in the New Age I amassed a sizable esoteric library, many decks of oracle and tarot cards and a collection of idols from several different cultures. When I first became a Christian, I sold many of these items on amazon, gave some to New Age friends and threw others out in the garbage, a few items at a time. I saved the collectible decks and more desirable books and idols to sell on ebay because I wanted to “get my money out of them.”
Last week I realized how crazy that kind of thinking was – as if I was saying that money is more important to me than God! But I didn’t do anything. Then, a few days later, a friend sent me this video. I had watched it before but as I watched it again the point Steve made about occult items causing you to feel “as if there is not an open heaven above you” hit me like a pile of rocks.
I realized that this was how I had been feeling.
I got rid of quite a few books and idols on Saturday. Afterwards, I noticed an incredible lightness and sharpness which felt a lot like the open wide sensory experience of childhood. It was wonderful!
There are still more books and decks to dispose of. Hopefully over the coming
