Last night I started watching pastor John Eckhardt’s Prophetic School on YouTube and plan to continue with the series.
Eckhardt, an experienced pastor from Chicago’s Crusaders Church and popular Christian author, presented information that was practical, understandable and Bible based. I found his approach engaging and loved what he had to say about women and the Holy Spirit.
In this first video, several key steps that can help us grow in the prophetic were given. They were:
- Spend time in the Word
- Utilize fasting
- Seek out people who are actively prophetic
- Work with prophecy on a consistant basis
- Expand your faith
- Be confident
I thought this was very good advice.
Pastor Eckhardt also offered suggestions for those of us who may be members of a church that does not offer training in the prophetic. These include visiting a church that does offer such training, going to conferences and reading prophetic books. Eckhardt’s book, God Still Speaks: How to Hear and Receive Revelation from God for Your Family, Church, and Community, was recommended and is available on Amazon. I have ordered it and will get back with a review.
Like a good friend of mine who has come back to Christianity after being caught up in New Age, I have mixed feeling about prophecy. On one hand I believe that, back in my card reading days, there were times when God did break through and talk to me. On the other hand, I know that much of information I received was not reliable and I am wary of allowing myself to be deceived again.
Be that as it may, the fact is I am drawn to prophetic, though my goal is to receive creative inspiration by prophetic means, NOT prophesy for individuals. For now, I am circling the topic – putting primary emphasis on Pastor Eckhardt’s Step 1.
As always, I will keep everyone updated!
